What is a SWIFT / BIC code?
A SWIFT code — also called a BIC (Bank Identifier Code) — is an 8- or 11-character ID for a specific bank, used to route international transfers. Eight characters (or a code ending in XXX) point to the head office; eleven point to a branch. In Nepal, only Class-A commercial banks are licensed for foreign exchange, so development banks, finance companies and microfinance institutions generally route through a correspondent commercial bank instead of holding their own code.
